Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is an oil produced from the seeds of the hemp plant. Although it comes from hemp, it differs from oils and extracts made from the flowers and other resin-rich parts of the cannabis plant.
Hemp Seed Oil in Cannabis Terminology
Hemp seed oil is typically produced by pressing seeds from the hemp plant. The seeds naturally contain oils and other plant compounds, but they do not contain the resin-rich trichomes found primarily on cannabis flowers.
This distinction is important because cannabinoids such as CBD, THC and THCA are primarily associated with the plant's resin-producing structures. Hemp seeds themselves contain little to no naturally occurring cannabinoids. Any trace amounts found in hemp seed products can generally result from contact with other parts of the plant during processing.
Hemp seed oil should therefore not be confused with CBD oil. CBD products contain cannabidiol derived from cannabinoid-containing plant material, whereas hemp seed oil is produced from the seeds and is defined primarily by its botanical source and production method.
The term hemp seed oil specifically describes oil derived from hemp seeds. It does not indicate a particular cannabis strain, cannabinoid profile or concentration of CBD.
